In May 2015, I raised funds for The Art Room, a charity for young people then based in Cowley, Oxford, by running a 66-mile (106km) ultramarathon around the Isle of Wight. A decade on, I have a taken on a literary marathon – against the odds – by writing my autobiography and I will be overtly supporting the charity YoungMinds.

I have given an Undertaking to YoungMinds that I will gift a ratcheting percentage of my royalties geared to the number of books sold. This is important, and personal, to me. I suffered my own childhood trauma, and typically harboured events and suppressed emotions. I became trapped in my own head.

I am passionate about nurturing the emotional wellbeing and development of the now Generation Z and Generation Alpha. History is proof that the next generation adapts but with in-person communication becoming less frequent, the challenges before youngsters are large, diverse and complex. In the age of abundant information, omnipotent social media and AI, mental health awareness and wellbeing are just so important.
